At the recent Chicago Auto Show, Toyota announced a new addition to its family of pickup trucks: the 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

The light truck market continues to blossom, accounting for almost 60 percent of the automotive industry in 2015. With an eye to the future, Toyota anticipates the continuance and increase of this growth. This expectation is not unwarranted, as Toyota enjoyed its very best year ever in light truck sales in 2015.

Toyota is getting ready for the continued truck boom by adding to its 2016 production at the San Antonio and Baja production plants, enhancing availability and also boosting overall segment sales volume.

The TRD Pro Family

Toyota introduced its TRD Pro family at the Chicago Auto Show in 2014 - a brand-new vehicle line created for discerning off-roading enthusiasts.

Since their debut, Toyota's TRD Pro models - taking shape in the Tacoma, the Tundra, and the 4Runner so far - have become some of Toyota's most popular and most in-demand models, continuing to sell out almost as quickly as dealerships receive them.

In addition to claiming Petersen's 4-Wheel and Off-Road "4x4 of the Year" award two years in a row (with the 4Runner TRD Pro winning in 2014 and the Tacoma TRD Pro winning in 2015), the TRD Pro models have helped Toyota reach younger, savvier consumers; enhanced the market presence of the Tundra, Tacoma, and 4Runner; and sparked a great deal of consumer enthusiasm for the Toyota brand.
