2026 Toyota Sienna MPG by Grade and Drivetrain

Every 2026 Sienna is a hybrid, and its fuel economy depends on one choice: front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Here are the EPA ratings for each grade, what the drivetrain costs in mpg, a rough range per tank, and the government's own advice on why mileage drops in a Chicago-area winter. Ratings are from fueleconomy.gov and toyota.com, read October 28, 2026.

What is the 2026 Toyota Sienna MPG?

The EPA rates the 2026 Sienna at 36 mpg city, 36 highway and 36 combined with front-wheel drive, and 35 city, 36 highway and 35 combined with all-wheel drive. Every grade uses the same 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain, so the drivetrain, not the trim, sets the rating.

Miles per gallon. From fueleconomy.gov (U.S. EPA and Department of Energy) records for the 2026 Toyota Sienna 2WD and AWD, 2.5L 4-cylinder hybrid, read October 28, 2026; both run on regular gasoline. The EPA gives the front-wheel-drive version a fuel economy and greenhouse gas score of 7 and the all-wheel-drive version a score of 6.

One hybrid powertrain, two drivetrains

Toyota.com lists a single powertrain for every 2026 Sienna grade: a 2.5-liter hybrid (a four-cylinder, per the EPA record) rated at 245 net combined horsepower, paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission and a sealed nickel-metal hydride traction battery.

Front-wheel-drive versions use two front electric motors. All-wheel-drive versions add a third motor at the rear and use Toyota's Electronic On-Demand AWD system. All-wheel-drive versions are rated 35 mpg combined by the EPA, versus 36 for front-wheel drive.

Every grade lists four drive modes: Normal, ECO, EV and Sport.

If you are choosing between front-wheel and all-wheel drive, our team at Elgin Toyota can walk you through both on the same grade so you can compare them directly.

How far can a Sienna go on a tank?

Toyota.com lists an 18-gallon fuel tank on every 2026 Sienna grade. Multiplying that by the EPA combined rating gives a rough idea of range: about 648 miles for front-wheel drive (18 x 36 mpg) and about 630 miles for all-wheel drive (18 x 35 mpg).

That is our arithmetic from the published ratings, not a range figure from Toyota or the EPA. Real-world range depends on speed, temperature, load and how much of the tank you use before refueling.

Why your Sienna's MPG drops in winter

Fueleconomy.gov says cold weather hits hybrids harder than conventional cars. For hybrids, fuel economy typically falls 20% to 40% in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips, and it varies by model. Its reasons:

Cold fluids

Cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids increase friction in the engine and transmission.

Longer warm-up

The engine takes longer to reach its most efficient temperature, which hurts short trips most.

Heat and defrost

Heated seats, window defrosters and heater fans use extra power.

Tires and air

Tire pressure drops in the cold, and denser cold air adds drag at highway speeds.

Winter gasoline

Winter blends can have slightly less energy per gallon than summer blends.

Battery and regen

Battery performance falls in the cold, which also affects regenerative braking on hybrids.

From fueleconomy.gov's Fuel Economy in Cold Weather page, read October 28, 2026.

Getting closer to the EPA numbers

Fueleconomy.gov's cold-weather advice: park in a warmer place such as a garage, combine trips so you drive less often with a cold engine, keep warm-up idling short (it notes most manufacturers recommend driving off gently after about 30 seconds), use seat warmers and defrosters only as needed, check tire pressure regularly, use the oil your manufacturer recommends for cold weather, and remove roof racks when you are not using them.

Year-round, it says aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic, and that mileage usually decreases rapidly above 50 mph.

A tire pressure check is a quick part of any visit to the Elgin Toyota service department.

2026 Toyota Sienna MPG FAQ

What MPG does the 2026 Toyota Sienna get?

The EPA rates the 2026 Sienna with front-wheel drive at 36 mpg city, 36 highway and 36 combined, and with all-wheel drive at 35 city, 36 highway and 35 combined. Toyota.com lists the same figures for every grade.

Is every 2026 Sienna a hybrid?

Yes. Toyota.com lists one powertrain for every 2026 Sienna grade: a 2.5-liter hybrid rated at 245 net combined horsepower, with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.

How much MPG do you give up with AWD?

One mpg in city and combined driving, per the EPA ratings: 36 city / 36 combined with front-wheel drive versus 35 city / 35 combined with all-wheel drive. Highway is 36 mpg either way.

Does the trim level change the Sienna's MPG?

Not on the 2026 model. On toyota.com the rating follows the drivetrain, not the grade: every front-wheel-drive version is listed at 36/36/36 and every all-wheel-drive version at 35/36/35. The Woodland Edition and Platinum are listed with all-wheel drive only.

How far can a 2026 Sienna go on a tank?

Toyota.com lists an 18-gallon fuel tank. At the EPA combined rating, that works out to roughly 648 miles for front-wheel drive (18 x 36) and 630 miles for all-wheel drive (18 x 35). This is simple math from the ratings, not a Toyota or EPA range figure, and real range depends on how and where you drive.

Why is my Sienna's MPG lower in winter?

Fueleconomy.gov says hybrids are hit harder by cold than conventional cars: fuel economy typically drops 20% to 40% in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips, depending on the model. Cold fluids, a longer warm-up, heater and defroster use, lower tire pressure and winter-blend gasoline all play a part.
