2027 Toyota Camry MPG by Grade: FWD and AWD

Every 2027 Camry is a hybrid. It comes in five grades (LE, SE, XLE, XSE and Nightshade), each with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Here are the ratings for each version, the EPA records behind them, a rough range per tank, and the government's advice on why mileage drops in a Chicago-area winter. Figures are from toyota.com and fueleconomy.gov, read October 29, 2026.

Miles per gallon. From fueleconomy.gov (U.S. EPA and Department of Energy) records 49823, 49824, 49825, 49821 and 49822 for the 2026 Toyota Camry hybrid (2.5-liter 4-cylinder, automatic AV-S6), read October 29, 2026. The records whose names include FF list front-wheel drive. Fueleconomy.gov's 2027 Toyota model list did not include a Camry when we checked, so these are the most recent EPA records; their ratings match the 2027 figures toyota.com lists for the same grades. The EPA listings do not name the Nightshade; toyota.com's Nightshade ratings match the SE and XLE.

One hybrid powertrain, two drivetrains

Toyota.com lists the same hybrid system on every 2027 Camry grade: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated 184 hp at 6,000 rpm and 163 lb-ft at 3,600-5,200 rpm, a 100 kW (134 hp) permanent magnet motor and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT).

All-wheel-drive versions add a 30 kW (40 hp) permanent magnet rear motor. Toyota.com lists hybrid system net horsepower of 225 with front-wheel drive and 232 with all-wheel drive.

Every grade has Drive Mode Select with Sport, Eco, Normal and EV modes, according to toyota.com. Curb weights run from 3,450 lb (LE FWD) to 3,682 lb (XSE AWD).

Toyota.com lists a hybrid battery warranty of 120 months or 150,000 miles and a hybrid system warranty of 96 months or 100,000 miles on every 2027 Camry grade.

How far can a Camry go on a tank?

Toyota.com lists a 13-gallon fuel tank on every 2027 Camry. Multiplied by the combined ratings, that gives a rough range of about 663 miles for an LE FWD (13 x 51) and about 650 miles for an LE AWD (13 x 50).

The versions rated 46 mpg combined (SE, XLE, XSE and Nightshade FWD, and SE, XLE and Nightshade AWD) work out to about 598 miles (13 x 46), and the XSE AWD to about 559 miles (13 x 43).

That is our arithmetic from the published ratings, not a range figure from Toyota or the EPA. Speed, temperature, load and trip length all change real-world range.

Why your Camry's MPG drops in winter

Fueleconomy.gov says hybrids typically see a 20% to 40% fuel economy loss in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips in cold weather, and conventional gasoline vehicles 10% to 20% and 15% to 33%. Its reasons:

Cold fluids

Cold engine oil and other drive-line fluids increase friction in the engine and transmission.

Longer warm-up

The engine takes longer to reach its most fuel-efficient temperature, which hurts short trips most.

Heat and defrost

Heated seats, window defrosters and heater fans use extra power.

Tires and air

Tire pressure drops in the cold, and denser cold air adds drag at highway speeds.

Winter gasoline

Winter blends can have slightly less energy per gallon than summer blends.

Battery

Battery performance falls in the cold, which on hybrids also affects regenerative braking.

From fueleconomy.gov's Fuel Economy in Cold Weather page, read October 29, 2026.

Getting closer to the rated numbers

Fueleconomy.gov's cold-weather advice: park in a warmer place such as a garage, combine trips so you drive less often with a cold engine, keep warm-up idling short (it notes most manufacturers recommend driving off gently after about 30 seconds), use seat warmers and defrosters only as needed, check tire pressure regularly, use the oil your manufacturer recommends for cold weather, and remove roof racks when you are not using them.

Year-round, it says aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) can lower gas mileage by roughly 15% to 30% at highway speeds and 10% to 40% in stop-and-go traffic, that mileage usually decreases rapidly above 50 mph, and that an extra 100 pounds in a vehicle could reduce mpg by about 1%, with smaller vehicles affected more than larger ones.

2027 Toyota Camry MPG FAQ

What MPG does the 2027 Toyota Camry get?

Toyota.com rates the 2027 Camry from 43 mpg city / 43 highway / 43 combined (XSE AWD) to 52 / 49 / 51 (LE FWD). Every other front-wheel-drive grade (SE, XLE, XSE and Nightshade) is rated 47 / 45 / 46, the LE AWD 50 / 49 / 50, and the SE, XLE and Nightshade AWD 46 / 46 / 46.

Is every 2027 Camry a hybrid?

Yes. Toyota.com lists the same hybrid powertrain on every 2027 Camry grade: a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT). There is no gas-only 2027 Camry on toyota.com.

Which Camry gets the best gas mileage?

The 2027 Camry LE with front-wheel drive, rated 52 mpg city, 49 highway and 51 combined. The LE with all-wheel drive is next at 50 / 49 / 50.

Does AWD lower the Camry's MPG?

Slightly, and by grade. Toyota.com lists 51 mpg combined for the LE FWD and 50 for the LE AWD, 46 combined for both the FWD and AWD versions of the SE, XLE and Nightshade, and 46 for the XSE FWD versus 43 for the XSE AWD. All-wheel drive is offered on every 2027 Camry grade.

Why is the Camry XSE AWD rated lower?

Toyota and the EPA do not give a reason on the pages used here. Toyota.com lists the XSE on 19-inch smoked gray and black-finished alloy wheels, and the XSE AWD has the highest curb weight it lists for a 2027 Camry, 3,682 lb. The EPA records list the XSE AWD separately from the SE and XLE AWD.

How far can a Camry go on a tank of gas?

Toyota.com lists a 13-gallon fuel tank on every 2027 Camry. At the combined ratings, that works out to roughly 663 miles for an LE FWD (13 x 51), 650 for an LE AWD (13 x 50), 598 for the 46-mpg versions (13 x 46) and 559 for an XSE AWD (13 x 43). This is simple math from the ratings, not a Toyota or EPA range figure.

Is the 2027 Camry rated differently from the 2026 Camry?

Not on the figures used here. The 2026 Camry EPA records on fueleconomy.gov show the same city, highway and combined ratings that toyota.com lists for the matching 2027 grades. Fueleconomy.gov did not list a 2027 Camry yet when we checked on October 29, 2026, so check the window sticker for the model year you are looking at.

Does the Camry need premium gas?

The fueleconomy.gov records for every 2026 Camry version list regular gasoline. Your owner's manual has the fuel recommendation for your car.

Why is my Camry's MPG lower in winter?

Fueleconomy.gov says hybrids typically lose 20% to 40% of their fuel economy in city driving and 25% to 45% on short trips in cold weather, more than conventional gasoline vehicles (10% to 20% and 15% to 33%).
