How Often Should You Change Your Oil?
If you're a new car owner - or even someone who's owned a few Toyota models - you may be wondering how often you should change the oil in your Toyota Camry. In general it's recommended that you perform a Toyota Camry oil change every six months or every 5,000 miles if you're using conventional oil. If you're using synthetic oil you can change your oil once a year or every 10,000 miles. Having your oil changed on time is important to the health of your engine, as oil breaks down as it ages and loses its constitution.
How to Change Oil in a Toyota Camry
When it's time to get a Toyota Camry oil change, you can either schedule service at Elgin Toyota or you can perform it at your Barlett home. If you plan on doing your oil change at home, you will need to follow the steps below, beginning with getting all the necessary parts from your local Elgin autostore.
Parts:
- Funnel
- Rags
- Oil Filter
- Oil Collection Pan
- Oil (Check owner's manual for how many quarts)
Directions:
- Take your oil collection pan and put it under your Camry, remove the oil pan plug, and allow the oil to drain. This could take up to 15 minutes.
- Remove the old oil filter and replace it with a new one, taking time to smear some of the new oil on the oil filter ring to ensure a tight seal and that it won't dry out.
- Replace the oil pan plug.
- Unscrew the engine oil bottle cap.
- Use a paper or plastic funnel to add the right amount of oil. You can find out how much you need in your owner's manual. Keep in mind the measurements will be in quarts.
- While adding the oil, make sure there's no oil leaking from the bottom of your Camry.
- Frequently check the oil dipstick to make sure you don't add too much oil.
- Reset the maintenance light if it is illuminated.
