Toyota Announces CH-R Crossover Reveal

After much speculation among automotive enthusiasts, Toyota has confirmed rumors that it will bring the CH-R crossover into production, finally putting forth a Toyota entry into the burgeoning subcompact crossover market. A production model of the CH-R is slated to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1.

Toyota fans everywhere are buzzing over the now-confirmed production destiny of the CH-R, which was recently spotted by spies in prototype version as it was tested in stormy weather.

Timing

The final production name that will replace the CH-R's working title is not yet known, but the vehicle will reportedly hit dealerships in Europe before coming to the United States.

The models destined for the European market will be constructed in Turkey. European production is scheduled to begin sometime toward the end of 2016.

What We Know so Far

The CH-R was originally intended to be a Scion model but will be released as a Toyota.

Toyota implied in 2015 that a hybrid version of the CH-R would be included among its powertrain offerings, and when the concept vehicle was displayed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, it featured a hybrid powertrain along with the Toyota New Global Architecture.

The vehicle's unconventional, sculpted exterior design is expected to remain largely intact from concept to production. The basic design concept is reportedly bringing back a three-door crossover vehicle from the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

The addition of the CH-R will provide Toyota with the competitor it's been lacking to go up against the likes of the Honda HR-V, the Mazda CX-3, and the Nissan Juke.
