2018 Toyota Prius

2017 Honda Accord Hybrid
Efficient in Every Way
Shopping around for a hybrid option that's super-efficient? The 2018 Toyota Prius and 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid are appealing choices, but the Prius really brings it home when it comes to efficiency. With its EPA-estimated standard 54 city/50 highway MPG and Eco model earning 58 city/53 highway MPG, it bests the Honda Accord Hybrid's 49 city/47 highway MPG. The Prius is about 450 pounds lighter than the Accord Hybrid, and it has active grille shutters that make it more efficient.

Design Advantages
The Prius has several advantages over the Accord Hybrid, starting with its lower lift-over trunk that makes it much easier to load and unload. And there's no comparison when you look at trunk space - the Prius offers 24.6 cubic feet of cargo room versus the Accord Hybrid's 13.5 cubic feet. Maybe that wouldn't be such a big deal if you could fold the rear seats down like you can in the Prius, but you can't in the Accord Hybrid. There are also some cool technology upgrades available only on the Prius, like the heads-up display that projects speed and other vital stats onto the windshield and Intelligent Parking Assist, which can back into a parking space or parallel park for you!

Value-Oriented
You're going to get a lot of bang for your buck with both the Prius and the Accord Hybrid, but what about the price? The 2018 Prius starts at $23,475*, and the 2017 Accord Hybrid's base MSRP is $29,605, so there's a substantial difference right off the bat. It's cheaper to insure the Prius, too, according to The Complete Car Cost Guide, and Intellichoice computes the five-year ownership costs for the Prius to be about $3,500 less than for the Honda Accord Hybrid..
