Bumper stickers and decals are lots of fun until you want to take them off! Here’s how to remove stickers from a car without harming your finish or glass. It doesn’t have to be a painful process, as long as you have the right supplies and a little patience.
Supply List
- Hair dryer with adjustable heat settings
- Razor blade or box cutter (if your sticker is on glass)
- Credit card or other sturdy plastic card
- Soft rags or detailing towels
- Glass cleaning solution (if you’re removing a sticker from glass)
- Tree sap remover
- Quick detailing spray
How to Remove Stickers From Car Paint
Start with a clean car that’s parked near an electrical outlet. Plug in the hair dryer and turn to the hottest setting. Hold the hair dryer a few inches above the center of the sticker for a few seconds, and then move around the rest of the sticker, heating the edges of the sticker last. Once the sticker is hot, place the plastic card at an angle, and scrape it underneath the edge of the sticker. The sticker should be hot enough for you to slide the card under the edges so you can peel it up. You can try using your fingers, too. If you’re working on a glass surface, you can use a box cutter or razor blade as your tool at a slight angle. Keep working until the adhesive breaks free of the car’s surface. Expect the sticker to tear apart, but keep scraping to remove sticker from car.
How to Remove Sticker Residue From a Car
The sticker may be gone, but sticky glue adhesive will remain on the surface. Place the hair dryer over the area again to heat it up, and use the card or razor blade to scrape off the residue. Use your rags and tree sap remover to clean the area completely. Finish the job with glass cleaner or quick detailing spray, depending on the surface you’re working on.
